How to take off a nail thats half way off?

hey people please i need help, two month ago my husband and i went to a korn free show and well he got hurt real bad in his big toe, that nail bled so much well it stayed there in place for about 2 month and yesterday night finally it came off but only half of it is off the end of the nail is still on the meat what do I do? I feel bad for him, should he go to a doctor or um should he pull it off no matter how much it can hurt?? i dont know what to do please answer asap. and no silly naswer please.
