Is it a better investment to buy boots or sneakers?

I'm in college so I want something pratical the boots are flat so they might be comfy. I already have a pair of sneakers that I've worn to death. I have a few pairs of chucks that I can wear this spring. I have another pair of puma suede sneakers too. I can wear sneakers all year if I buy them but I can only wear the boots for like 3 months til its time to put them away.
