Are these too many fish for a 48 gallon tank?

I think it will be fine. That is a lot, but you will have to be sure to keep that tank clean!! I don't know how to tell female from a male guppy, but if they are all males, you'll be ok, if not, they multiply - but with all the fish in there, the babies will never survive.
