In the movie, mr.smith goes to washington, were the scenes actually filmed in the d.c. capitol senate??

or was it a set made to look like the real thing................and there is the scene where stewart is talking to sen. paine's daughter and he keeps dropping his hat over and over........but when he finally runs out of the room and out the door, he didn't have the hat with him at all !!!! am i right????
